SUMMARY:Training Event - ASB\, Mental Health & the Equality Act in Sheltered Housing and Independent Living
DESCRIPTION:This half day course on ASB\, Mental Health and the Equality Act is being delivered by Cathy Chattaway of Green and Burton and aims to demystify the complex area of ASB case management. \nOne of the biggest challenges that prevents ASB cases from progressing to resolution is where the person causing the harm has poor mental health. Few officers managing ASB case work will have formal qualifications in mental health law and practice\, making it difficult to decide whether action can or should be taken. \nWhere action is determined appropriate against someone with poor mental health\, equality act challenges can sometimes follow. It is vital the officer understands the duties within this legislation and the practical case management steps they can undertake to mitigate these defences and ensure the most informed decision is being taken in a case. \nCourse Details \nLearners will explore: \n\nThe differences to the case management process when a person causing ASB has poor mental health\nUnderstanding the legal position with regards legal action\nUnderstanding the right questions to ask the right people\nThe common equality act challenges (disability discrimination and breaching the public sector equality duty) and how to best overcome these\nThe importance of proportionality/equality act assessments\nPartnership working\, including with public health and the voluntary sector\n\nWho is this for? aimed at supporting front line staff in independent living settings \nWhere is it? Online via MS Teams \nWhen is it? Wednesday 20th May 2026 @10.00 – 13.00 \nCost? £95 for erosh members and £125 for non-members \nNumbers will be limited to 15 – further courses can be scheduled if there is high demand and there is also the option for the course to be provided in-house. \n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to book via our Eventbrite booking page if you want to pay by credit card\, or contact Rena on info@erosh.co.uk if you would prefer to receive an invoice.

SUMMARY:Free Bitesize Workshop - What does Effective Safeguarding Look Like?
DESCRIPTION:Safeguarding is at the heart of independent living services. It is not just about protecting vulnerable adults from harm; it is about promoting their rights\, voice\, and well-being so they can live safely\, independently\, and with dignity. \nSafeguarding is underpinned by a clear commitment to person-centred practice and early intervention. It is also a statutory requirement for all care and housing providers. Proactive safeguarding enables people to feel secure in their homes\, confident in the support they receive with active participation in their care. Effective safeguarding in independent living settings means: \n\nRecognising and responding to risk quickly and appropriately\nCreating a culture where concerns are taken seriously and acted upon\nSupporting individuals to make informed choices while managing risk\nEnsuring staff have the knowledge\, confidence\, and accountability to act\nEmbedding prevention\, not just response\, into everyday practice\nIdentifying and supporting individuals who may be experiencing abuse but feel unable to disclose it\, or may not recognise it themselves\nProviding reassurance and guidance to families and loved ones who may have concerns\n\nStrong safeguarding arrangements don’t just protect they empower. They build environments where people are listened to\, respected\, and able to thrive while also ensuring that those who may be most at risk\, including individuals who hide abuse\, are not overlooked. \nThis free lunchtime session will be led by Rachel Honey Jones who brings over 10 years’ experience in the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead. Rachel has designed and delivered comprehensive safeguarding training programmes in the social housing sector\, ensuring staff at all levels are equipped to protect and support vulnerable adults effectively\, and supported by their organisations. Join this focused lunchtime session to explore what effective safeguarding looks like in practice. \nThe Workshop is for erosh members and registered organisations of the Independent Living Standards. SUMMARY:Training Event - Effectively Managing Neighbour Disputes in Independent Living Settings
DESCRIPTION:This CPD accredited course being delivered by Cathy Chattaway of Green and Burton is designed to ensure that you can quickly\, safely and confidently identify when a report should be considered a neighbour dispute\, taking a harm centred approach to ensure decisions are informed and don’t overlook safeguarding or support needs. \nIt gives guidance on staff roles and the types of actions that can be taken with a focus on expectation management and fostering good relations between parties. \nCourse Details \n\nEverything you need to know to be able to recognise a neighbour dispute and manage it effectively\nDo you feel that you regularly get caught up in trying to improve relationships between two parties who simply just don’t get along?\nDo you deal with lots of cases where there are complaints and counter-complaints\, with no clear victim and perpetrator\, making it difficult to understand what action might be possible?\nIs more of your time spent focussed on low-harm\, disputes between neighbours\, rather than being able to protect victims who are suffering serious harm?\n\nNeighbour disputes are often considered some of the most challenging types of cases to deal with. Often the behaviour reported is on the lower level of harm and results from a dislike of each other\, lack of tolerance or unreasonable expectation as to how each other should live their life’s. \nOften these cases involve complaint and counter-complaint\, without any independent witnesses or clear wrong doer. This makes it very difficult for action to be taken and often results in cases being open a long time\, without resolution\, or the case being caught in a constant cycle of being closed and then re-opened. \nDealing with these types of cases take confidence. Confidence to know when to deal with the matter as ASB\, when to say no and how to set appropriate boundaries and limitations to what action you are able to take. These cases often result in the highest level of dissatisfaction and service complaints. \nThis course is designed to ensure that you can quickly and confidently identify when a report should be considered a neighbour dispute\, taking a harm centred approach and ensure that the decision is informed and doesn’t overlook a safeguarding or support need. \nIt provides guidance on the role of an officer involved in these cases and the types of actions that can be taken\, with a focus on expectation management and fostering good relations being parties. \nThe course uses a mix of videos\, exercises and quizzes to cover the following lessons: \n\nWhat is a neighbour dispute?\nWhy are they so challenging to deal with?\nWhy we shouldn’t class these matters as ASB\nThe actions that we can take in these cases\n\nOn completion of the course\, you will receive: \n\nA certificate\nUseful resources including workbook\n\nThis course is CPD accredited. This means that an independent awarding body has assessed the course to ensure that the learning objectives are met\, the content is engaging and accessible and learning is appropriately assessed. Completion of the course qualifies for 3 hours of CPD time. \n  \nWho is this for? aimed at supporting front line staff in independent living settings \nWhere is it? Online via MS Teams \nWhen is it? Wednesday 11th March 2026 @ 10.00 – 13.00 \nCost? £95 for erosh members and £125 for non-members \n  \nClick here to book via our Eventbrite booking page if you want to pay by credit card\, or contact Rena on info@erosh.co.uk if you would prefer to receive an invoice. \n  \nNumbers will be limited to 15 – further courses can be scheduled if there is high demand and there is also the option for the course to be provided in-house.

SUMMARY:Older People’s Housing in Wales Seminar (in partnership with CIH)
