SUMMARY:Launch of the new erosh Code of Practice: Zoom event for those interested in registering
DESCRIPTION:The erosh Code of Practice enables sheltered and supported housing providers to demonstrate the quality of their accommodation and services against nationally recognised standards and to measure the positive outcomes for  customers. It also provides a cost effective framework for regularly reviewing and updating policies\, procedures and processes; ensuring staff are knowledgeable trained\, and supported; and for identifying  strengths and areas for improvement. \nOver the last few months we have been revising and updating the  Code of Practice standards to ensure that these continue to meet the needs of the sector\, and that the process is robust and credible but not unnecessarily onerous\, and relevant to different types and sizes of sheltered and supported housing providers. \nOur review is now complete so we offer you the opportunnity to learn about the erosh Code of Practice and how accreditation will benefit your organisation by joining us this free Zoom event \nTo register for this event please email events@erosh.co.uk requesting to reserve a place providing \n\nyour full name\norganisation name\ntitle/position\n\nYou will then be sent joining instructions a few days before the event. \nWe will be offering a variety of different events from national erosh member events and other workshops for both members and non-members (members receive a discount) focused on particular practical themes linked to our How to Guides; as well as of course our local network events and our joint events with CIH Cymru. \n

SUMMARY:National Network Event - Impact of Covid-19 on the loneliness & isolation of older people
DESCRIPTION:In March last year\, when we thought we were facing a short-term crisis\, we wrote about the impact of reduced social contact on the loneliness and isolation of older people. Sheltered and retirement housing providers and scheme staff really stepped up and the extent to which support to residents was maintained was incredible. But as the situation continues and we find ourselves in another lockdown\, self-isolation as a result of physical need or understandable anxiety\, as well as the curtailing of face to face social networking opportunities\, exacerbates the loneliness and isolation of some older people and results in others who were not lonely or isolated becoming so; not forgetting the particular impact on those living with dementia\, and on carers who are often older people. \nThis national network event for erosh members focuses on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the loneliness and social isolation of older people. \nChaired by erosh CEO\, Rebecca Mollart\, the session will include: \n\nIntroduction –  Rebecca Mollart\nA video of a conversation in December between Rebecca and erosh patron Dame Esther Rantzen DBE\nDiscussion session sharing issues and good practice\nConcluding remarks – Rebecca Mollart\n\nTo register for this event please email events@erosh.co.uk requesting to reserve a place providing \n\nyour full name\nmember organisation\ntitle/position\n\nYou will then be sent joining instructions a few days before the event. \nThis is the first of our programme of online events planned for 2021. \nWe will be offering a variety of different events from national erosh member events like this one\, as well as Code of Practice workshops for registered providers\, and other workshops for both members and non-members (members receive a discount) focused on particular practical themes linked to our How to Guides; as well as of course our local network events and our joint events with CIH Cymru.

SUMMARY:"Reimagining ageing" lecture & debate
DESCRIPTION:A lecture and debate at The International Longevity Centre \nProfessor Stuart Gietel-Basten\, Associate Professor of Social Science and Public Policy at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology \nRespondents: \nProfessor Carol Jagger\, Professor of the Epidemiology of Ageing at Newcastle University \nSteven Baxter\, Club Vita \nPopulation ageing is often presented as an existential threat. And traditional demographic measures of ageing amplify the message that longevity creates an economic and social problem that needs to be solved. \nHowever\, these measures are based upon binary ideas: of being ‘old’ at 60 or 65\, and then becoming ‘dependent’ on the labour force aged below this age. \nRecent publications by Professor Stuart Gietel-Basten and his collaborators in Europe and the USA have turned this idea on its head\, presenting a radically different way of measuring ageing which\, in turn\, reconceptualises the entire concept of how longevity and society interact with each other. \nDuring this event\, Professor Gietel-Basten will set present his analysis and arguments\, before we debate whether we should adopt a new way of measuring ageing and how can we can make this happen. \nThe ILC is the UK’s specialist think tank on the impact of longevity on society\, and what happens next.

SUMMARY:erosh/CIH Cymru's Older People's Housing Conference
DESCRIPTION:Wales has the highest proportion of older people compared to the rest of the UK. Whilst fortunate in many ways\, with older people contributing massively to the economy and their local communities through sharing skills and expertise there can be no doubt that considerable challenges lie ahead in providing high quality\, sustainable housing\, care and support. \nThe mounting pressure on health and social care services\, increases in people living with multiple co-morbidities and sector specific challenges like the application of the Local Housing Allowance rate to social homes from 2019 all combine to question how we continue to meet demand\, enhance affordability and increase quality. \nThis year’s Older People’s Housing Conference in partnership with erosh will once again see a range of expert speakers look at these pressing issues and consider the future beyond the horizon. \nWho should attend\nAnyone who works to deliver housing and related support services to older people. There’s a focus for frontline staff\, particularly wardens and sheltered housing managers. \nFor further information please click here. \nTo book\, please click here.
