SUMMARY:erosh/CIH Cymru's Older People's Housing Conference
DESCRIPTION:Wales has the highest proportion of older people compared to the rest of the UK. Whilst fortunate in many ways\, with older people contributing massively to the economy and their local communities through sharing skills and expertise there can be no doubt that considerable challenges lie ahead in providing high quality\, sustainable housing\, care and support. \nThe mounting pressure on health and social care services\, increases in people living with multiple co-morbidities and sector specific challenges like the application of the Local Housing Allowance rate to social homes from 2019 all combine to question how we continue to meet demand\, enhance affordability and increase quality. \nThis year’s Older People’s Housing Conference in partnership with erosh will once again see a range of expert speakers look at these pressing issues and consider the future beyond the horizon. \nWho should attend\nAnyone who works to deliver housing and related support services to older people. There’s a focus for frontline staff\, particularly wardens and sheltered housing managers. \nFor further information please click here. \nTo book\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Housing - making a difference - East Midlands centenary event
DESCRIPTION:The history of housing management\, and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH)\, was sparked by the work of pioneers of social reform such as Octavia Hill who were opposed to appalling housing conditions in the second half of the 19th century. CIH can trace it’s roots as a profession back to 1916\, when the first professional body for housing\, the Association for Women Housing Workers\, was founded. \nIn 2016\, our centenary year\, it is fitting for CIH to celebrate Octavia’s legacy as one of the greatest social entrepreneurs in British History and contribution to Social Housing. \nTo commemorate this milestone\, a special event is being organised by CIH East Midlands Regional Board. \nThe event will consist of some key speeches made by a variety of personalities in the sector\, in order to appreciate Octavia’s legacy on housing and peoples lives and the inspiration we can draw from this legacy as we look to shape the industry for the future. \nFor further details and to book\, please visit: http://www.cih.org/events/display/vpathDCR/templatedata/cih/events/data/Housing_-_making_a_difference_-_East_midlands_centenary_event

SUMMARY:Brexit and the implications for housing
DESCRIPTION:Brexit asks questions of Northern Ireland that are both considerable – such as our reliance on common agricultural policy (CAP) payments – and specific\, like the land border with the Republic of Ireland. \nCAP payments are just one of many EU funding streams now in doubt and housing is not immune. In June the European Investment Bank (EIB) provided £280 million to Choice and Apex Housing to build 4\,700 new and much needed social homes over the next five years. How will the post-Brexit UK access EIB investment\, which is very small in non-EU states? What will the wider impact be on housing\, such as cost of materials and labour? \nFor further details and to book\, please visit: http://www.cih.org/events/display/vpathDCR/templatedata/cih/events/data/northernireland/1816056_brexit

SUMMARY:Homelessness and Allocations Conference and Exhibition 2016
DESCRIPTION:There is an increasing consensus and sense of urgency through England to better resolve housing needs. Ministers\, campaign groups and housing practitioners all agree that a new approach must be adopted to tackling homelessness; critical to stopping the ongoing increase in the number of people becoming homeless is the introduction of new legislation to prevent homelessness. \n2016 has seen a Select Committee Enquiry into homelessness across England\, the first such investigation in over a decade. A group of MPs from across the political spectrum have come to together to discover why homelessness has risen for the past five years. Several key recommendations were made\, covering matters such as official statistics\, factors in the increase of homelessness\, the role of local authorities\, service user’s perspectives\, vulnerable groups\, cross-government working and homelessness legislation. All of these issues and more will be covered at this conference. \nThe rights of social housing tenants have undergone a significant change this year. The introduction of fixed-term tenancies will make obtaining social housing more complex than previously. The ongoing programme of welfare reforms means that entitlements for claiming help with housing costs and the funding of supported housing will be considerably different in future. The courts have handed down far reaching decisions on both housing allocations policy and homelessness practice and all of the most important ruling will be covered in our ever popular annual case law review. \nSpeaking at this conference are some of the country’s most influential decision makers and policy shapers\, including professionals from national government\, local government\, social landlords\, charities\, private companies and legal sector. They will share their knowledge and experience\, and facilitate master classes where discussion and debate about the most pressing challenges facing our sector and the potential solutions available can be shared. The event is a must for professionals working in housing allocations and homelessness as we examine what is needed to deliver the best possible service for people in housing need. Delegates will have  hear leading experts speak at three keynote sessions plus choose from 16 workshop throughout the two days. \n  \nFor further details and to book\, please visit: \nhttp://www.cih.org/events/display/vpathDCR/templatedata/cih/events/data/National%2520Events/Homelessness_and_Allocations_Conference_and_Exhibition_2016

SUMMARY:Erosh London event
DESCRIPTION:We are very sorry to announce that the event on Wednesday 2nd November has had to be postponed. \nUnfortunately it seems that only a very small number of people would be able to attend- too few to justify us going ahead and engaging speakers etc.. We therefore have postponed the event but in the near future will announce an alternative date which we hope will work better for people.
