Training Event – Effectively Managing Neighbour Disputes

It gives guidance on staff roles and the types of actions that can be taken with a focus on expectation management and fostering good relations between parties.

Everything you need to know to be able to recognise a neighbour dispute and manage it effectively
- Do you feel that you regularly get caught up in trying to improve relationships between two parties who simply just don’t get along?
- Do you deal with lots of cases where there are complaints and counter-complaints, with no clear victim and perpetrator, making it difficult to understand what action might be possible?
- Is more of your time spent focussed on low-harm, disputes between neighbours, rather than being able to protect victims who are suffering serious harm?
Neighbour disputes are often considered some of the most challenging types of cases to deal with. Often the behaviour reported is on the lower level of harm and results from a dislike of each other, lack of tolerance or unreasonable expectation as to how each other should live their life’s.
Often these cases involve complaint and counter-complaint, without any independent witnesses or clear wrong doer. This makes it very difficult for action to be taken and often results in cases being open a long time, without resolution, or the case being caught in a constant cycle of being closed and then re-opened.
Dealing with these types of cases take confidence. Confident to know when to deal with the matter as ASB, when to say no and how to set appropriate boundaries and limitations to what action you are able to take. These cases often result in the highest level of dissatisfaction and service complaints.
This course is designed to ensure that you can quickly and confidently identify when a report should be considered a neighbour dispute, taking a harm centred approach and ensure that the decision is informed and doesn’t overlook a safeguarding or support need. It provides guidance on the role of an officer involved in these cases and the types of actions that can be taken, with a focus on expectation management and fostering good relations being parties.
This course uses a mix of videos, exercises and quizzes to cover the following lessons:
1. What is a neighbour dispute?
2. Why are they so challenging to deal with?
3. Why we shouldn’t class these matters as ASB
4. The actions that we can take in these cases
On completion of the course, you will receive:
- A certificate
- Useful resources including workbook
This course is CPD accredited. This means that an independent awarding body has assessed the course to ensure that the learning objectives are met, the content is engaging and accessible and learning is appropriately assessed. Completion of the course qualifies for 3 hours of CPD time
