Free Bitesize Workshop – What does Effective Safeguarding Look Like?

28th April @ 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm

FREE

Safeguarding is at the heart of independent living services. It is not just about protecting vulnerable adults from harm; it is about promoting their rights, voice, and well-being so they can live safely, independently, and with dignity.

Safeguarding is underpinned by a clear commitment to person-centred practice and early intervention. It is also a statutory requirement for all care and housing providers. Proactive safeguarding enables people to feel secure in their homes, confident in the support they receive with active participation in their care. Effective safeguarding in independent living settings means:

  • Recognising and responding to risk quickly and appropriately
  • Creating a culture where concerns are taken seriously and acted upon
  • Supporting individuals to make informed choices while managing risk
  • Ensuring staff have the knowledge, confidence, and accountability to act
  • Embedding prevention, not just response, into everyday practice
  • Identifying and supporting individuals who may be experiencing abuse but feel unable to disclose it, or may not recognise it themselves
  • Providing reassurance and guidance to families and loved ones who may have concerns

Strong safeguarding arrangements don’t just protect they empower. They build environments where people are listened to, respected, and able to thrive while also ensuring that those who may be most at risk, including individuals who hide abuse, are not overlooked.

This free lunchtime session will be led by Rachel Honey Jones who brings over 10 years’ experience in the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead. Rachel has designed and delivered comprehensive safeguarding training programmes in the social housing sector, ensuring staff at all levels are equipped to protect and support vulnerable adults effectively, and supported by their organisations. Join this focused lunchtime session to explore what effective safeguarding looks like in practice.
