Hi,
Can I ask what others processes are when a sheltered secure tenant, or leaseholder, wishes to move in another person and it wouldn’t constitute overcrowding?
For example, a tenant wishes to move in a partner as a household member, but that person is currently in prison or has a forensic history which could pose a safeguarding risk to other residents?
We’re thinking of putting in a mini application process along with an appeals procedure for tenants wanting to do this and wondered if anyone else has anything similar in place?
Thanks

Thank you! We would normally have spoken to the tenant but, on this occasion, they tried to liaise with the probation officer themselves while the scheme manager was not on site and were very coy about disclosing details to us. Thankfully we picked up on it and intervened and Probation agreed that this accommodation wasn’t suitable. But as a general procedure we think something like an additional assessment would be really useful, we can then work this into resident handbooks and sign ups etc so they’re aware. If you feel comfortable sharing this assessment I’d be very grateful, my email is zola.thomas@wealden.gov.uk.
Thanks
We have an additional sheltered scheme assessment but in the case above I would be asking for risk assessments and involvement from probation. It may be worth having an open and honest conversation with the current tenant and offer to support to look for more suitable alternative accommodation if they wanted to live with partner who isn’t suitable for sheltered?
