Hi Louize. So we have a range of accommodation: Retirement Living, supported housing, Extra Care and CQC registered services across England. The MPLC covers the organisation, so any of the services with communal lounges and a shared TV we ask them to display it. My understanding is that it is to do with copyright law and showing to, what is considered, a public audience. I found a useful flow chart on the Gov UK site: Changes to Section 72: Public showing or playing of broadcasts – GOV.UK
Our tenants would be expected to sort their own TV licences for personal TVs in flats. We have a few Retirement Living tenants left that still get the concessionary TV license, based on preserved rights, which our staff would sort out with affected tenants. Hi Jenny, many thanks for your response. I have some more questions if you are happy to answer them
What type of accommodations do you manage?
Do you have an ordinary TV licence for the communal TV’s?
Can you advise why it was deemed necessary to purchase this licence?
Do your tenants/service users/customers have their own TV licences for their own flats
Where are you based in the UK, I think there may be different legislation for wales but we are looking into this separately

Hi Louize, we have the MPLC blanket licence for our communal lounges. I can’t find anything to say that is has to be displayed. But it is on our intranet where any frontline staff can find it if they need to evidence it.
