Frontline staff working in sheltered housing and independent living settings can sometimes find themselves dealing with challenging or confrontational situations - particularly when lone working.
Knowing how to recognise potential risks, communicate effectively and respond safely can help staff feel more confident when faced with demanding situations.
This half-day online training course will explore practical strategies for managing confrontation, protecting personal safety, and reducing the risk of situations escalating.
The session will cover:
- Identifying situations where personal safety may be at risk
- Recognising the signs and effects of alcohol, drugs, mental health issues, and unwanted attention
- Organisational lone-working policies and procedures
- Understanding how confrontation can be expressed through body language
- Effective communication skills and positive body language
- Safe strategies for getting out of demanding situations, including distraction techniques
- Self-defence law
- Writing effective incident reports in case of complaints or litigation
The training will cover how observation, communication, and threat and risk assessment can help staff assess situations and respond appropriately, particularly when working alone.
Delivered in a relaxed, informal, and flexible manner, the session will include opportunities for questions and discussion. Numbers are limited to 15.
