Every person has a story. And sometimes, the parts of that story we don’t see are the ones that affect their mental health the most.
The loss of someone they love. The loneliness that can come with getting older. The frustration of finding everyday things more difficult than they once were. The uncertainty of changes to their health, home or independence.
These experiences are deeply personal, and no two people will respond to them in quite the same way.
This year’s World Mental Health Day theme, ‘Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change’, reminds us just how important it is to listen to people and understand the experiences that shape their wellbeing.
Across supported housing and independent living services, colleagues have the privilege of getting to know residents as individuals, building relationships and providing support that goes far beyond their housing needs.
Those everyday conversations, moments of understanding and opportunities for residents to share their experiences can make an enormous difference to someone’s sense of belonging, confidence and wellbeing.
And we mustn’t forget the mental health of the people providing that support, whose own experiences, challenges and wellbeing deserve the same care and consideration.
At erosh, we recognise the vital role our sector plays in helping people feel connected, respected and supported to live well.
This World Mental Health Day, we’re celebrating the value of every voice, every experience and every person behind them.
