Challenging Behaviour in Independent Living Settings
Independent living providers have experienced an increase in residents with complex needs presenting challenges for providers, scheme staff and other residents.
Professional boundaries
Professional boundaries form the framework within which the support worker and customer relationship occurs and set the parameters within which support for independent living services are delivered. They define the limits of behaviour to allow a professional worker and service user to engage safely in a supportive relationship based on trust and respect.
Safeguarding older adults
Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility, from front-line staff in regular contact with tenants, residents and service users; to staff who periodically visit homes or communal areas e.g. repairs staff; to contractors carrying out works in people’s homes, to CEOs and board members.
Volunteers
Volunteering is well established in the UK with many organisations including housing providers actively involving volunteers in some way.
Social Prescribing
Social prescribing involves healthcare practitioners referring individuals to non-clinical services, activities or community groups to improve their quality of life and physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Choosing to Move: Supporting Residents
Independent living/sheltered and retirement housing schemes are aimed at individuals who live independently but with a bit of support when needed. But what happens when accommodation and/or services no longer meet an individual’s needs and they may need to consider moving to alternative accommodation which caters for a higher level of need or more complex needs? This resource considers how best to support residents to choose to move.
