In our last ezine, we expressed our delight that nine erosh members were represented amongst the 34 finalist organisations at the EAC 2013 Awards sponsored by Legal & General and the Housing LIN. This time we are delighted to report that all of these were either winners or highly commended! It is fantastic to see that those organisations that ‘buy in’ to good practice by joining erosh receive the rewards they deserve.
- Apex Housing Association – St Julian’s House, Omagh, received the Gold Award for Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme 30-44 units
- Axiom Housing Association Ltd. – The Pavilions, Peterborough, received the Silver Award for Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme 30–44 units
- Connect Housing Association – Hawthorn Mill, Leeds, was Highly Commended for Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme 30-44 units
- Contour Homes – Woodcroft Preston, was Highly Commended for Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme – Location and Facilities; and D’Oliveira Court, Manchester, was Highly Commended for Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme – Services
- Helena Partnerships – West End Road, St Helens, received the Bronze Award for Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme 30–44 units
- Midland Heart – Oakwood Lodge, Willenhall, received the Gold Award for Best UK Extra Care Housing Scheme of any size and the Gold Award for Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme 45-59 units; College Gardens, Coventry, was Highly Commended for Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme – Services; and Andrews House, Lichfield, was Highly Commended for Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme – Apartments and Bungalows
- RCT Homes – Bryn Ifor, Tonypandy, was Highly Commended for Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme under 30 units
- Riverside ECHG – Hawthorn Court, Liverpool, was Highly Commended for Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme 30-44 units

The awards lunch to celebrate the best in older people’s housing took place in Birmingham on September 24th.The lunch and celebration, attended by 250 people of whom two thirds were residents, included a speech by plain-speaking former Conservative health minister Edwina Currie. The awards, now in their fourth year, are decided by residents, who score their retirement housing or housing with care schemes on a range of factors while playing a unique card game developed by EAC.
