Survey: Domestic Abuse in Sheltered and Retirement Housing

Domestic Abuse in Sheltered and Retirement Housing – please complete our survey

Erosh, with Dewis Choice, the Centre for Age, Gender and Social Justice, Aberystwyth University, is developing a good practice guide (kindly sponsored by the Kier Group) on domestic abuse in sheltered and retirement housing schemes. The guide will be launched on 29 September at our virtual national network event on domestic abuse and older people delivered by Helena Herklots, the Older People’s Commissioner in Wales, and will include for example defining domestic abuse, identifying signs, providing support and sources of further information.

There is little evidence around domestic abuse specifically in sheltered and retirement housing schemes so, for the first part of this project and to inform our guide, we want to develop a picture of what’s happening.

Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, Heléna Herklots CBE, said:

“I know people working across the housing sector already provide a wide range of support to older people experiencing or at risk of abuse, and I’m really pleased Erosh is developing a good practice guide that will help ensure people can recognise the signs of abuse and know about services and support available. Sharing your experiences will help to provide a clearer understanding of the ways that abuse affects older people, and how we can ensure they get the support they may need. So please do complete this survey and make your voice heard.”
