Supported housing exemption confirmed

On 27 January, the Government confirmed that supported housing will be exempt from the 1% rent reduction; and there will be “protections” for supported housing tenants affected by the plans to cap housing benefit (HB) in line with the Local Housing Allowance (LHA). This however is for one year only until after the “review into the costs of providing supported housing”. Read the full Inside Housing article here (you have to register/sign in to read but it is free).

Erosh welcomes this announcement but of course we are disappointed that the ‘reprieve’ is only for a year and the “protections” are unclear. We will continue to lobby government expressing to make sure supported housing continues to be exempt and for clarity around the LHA situation. As always we need evidence to strengthen our ‘case’. Could members please email Rebecca Mollart with their concerns and the likely impact on services for older people should these exemptions/protections not apply.
