In our briefing last December, we explained that ‘mixed aged’ couples would be affected by the spare room subsidy/size criteria from October 2013.
However we are delighted to confirm that existing mixed-age claimants will not now be affected. New ‘mixed-age’ couples claiming benefits for the first time under universal credit will not be exempt and will have to wait until they both reach pension age but it will not affecting existing claimants.
