Local Supported Housing Strategies
On 10 February 26, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government published new statutory guidance on Local Supported Housing Strategies for England required under the Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023.
Lack of support for older people experiencing abuse
New research from Dewis Choice, Centre for Age, Gender and Social Justice at Aberwystwyth University finds that people over 60 are underrepresented in domestic abuse policy, research, and frontline service provision resulting in a lack of opportunities for older people to access support.
Supported Housing Regulation Consultation
In 2025, Government published its Supported Housing Regulation Consultation plans to implement measures in the Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023. Proposals (not applicable to independent living) include a local licensing scheme, National Supported Housing Standards, and changes to HB Regulations. Welsh Government funding to train housing workers
On 25 March, Welsh Government announced plans to invest £655k to support training programmes (including a new accredited training module) and paid work placements in social housing organisations to develop ‘the skilled workforce needed to deliver more affordable, low-carbon homes across Wales’. Adult Social Care Review
The first report of Baroness Casey’s review will be published this year and the second in 2028. In a speech at the Nuffield Trust Summit on 5 March 26, Baroness Casey referred to underfunded services relying on low-paid care workers, lack of ownership and accountability, and a deep divide between health and social care.
Dementia Strategy for Wales 2026-2036
Welsh Government is currently reviewing responses to its consultation on a new Dementia Strategy. Erosh responded to the consultation referring in particular to the need for housing providers to be recognised for the role they play in identifying and supporting individuals living with dementia and the positive impact they have on the achievement of the objectives in the Dementia Strategy, especially if included on the National Dementia Ministerial Board and Regional Partnership Boards.
APPG Inquiry Report - Creating Intergenerational Communities
This Inquiry examined the advantages and challenges of creating new housing developments consciously bringing people of all ages together.
The final report has now been launched, highlighting the need for more accommodation specifically designed for older people and the benefits for all of mixed generational communities.
