The Department of Health has made £22 million available to 21 pioneering research projects to boost dementia diagnosis.
The funding will go towards researching dementia rates and trial groundbreaking preventative treatments that can help people with dementia live well with their condition.
The funding, awarded by National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), has been designed to cover all areas of scientific activity relevant to dementia. They include the UK’s first ever trial to measure how much longer people with dementia can live safely and independently in their own homes, when they are provided with a specialised telecare technology package including motion sensors, GPS trackers, and personal alarms.
