The South Wales Regional Network is one of the newest networks, having been set up in March 2012. The group has met three times to date and has growing membership, with more than 25 housing associations and support agencies being represented.
The group is chaired by Angela Stacey, Head of Care and Support at RCT Homes. Each meeting has been lively with guest speakers and ‘hot topic’ discussion.
Members take turn to host the meeting, which means the location changes, giving the host the opportunity to showcase their organisations good practice and innovative ideas. RCT Homes and Monmouthshire Housing Association have hosted the first three meetings and the next meeting on April 16, 2013, is being hosted by Valleys to Coast, Bridgend. A buffet lunch is provided at 12.00pm giving members the opportunity to network before the start of the official meeting at 1.00pm.
Our members find the sessions really useful as they come together with other providers, professionals and support bodies to share experiences and learn from each other and with such big changes affecting support services in Wales over the coming months, following the Supporting People Review, this is invaluable.
To date we have had presentations on the work of the Older Peoples Commissioner for Wales, Cymorth Cymru on Working Together to Support Older People in Wales, Remodelling of Sheltered Schemes, feedback from the Supporting People Review in Wales and the role of the Regional Collaborative Committees – and have discussed amongst other things Fire Safety within sheltered housing.
Erosh member Jo Lawson from United Welsh explained: “Being part of the South Wales erosh group is a very positive experience. I enjoy having the opportunity to meet colleagues, share good practice and discuss some complex and difficult issues. I’m very pleased to see regular attendance and high activity, suggesting that all those involved get a value added experience from being of the group.”
The next meeting for the South Wales Regional Network is on Tuesday, April 16 at Valleys to Coast (V2C), 1 Court Road, Bridgend, CF31 1BX starting at 12.00pm. Please let us know if you would like to attend.
