Digital Unite has launched a new range of online courses to help housing organisations support their communities with using the internet to manage money and search and apply for jobs online.
Just over 7 million people have still never used the internet with more than half of those (4.1 million) estimated to be living in sheltered housing. Around 16 million people aged over 15 don’t have ‘basic online skills’ though 96% of all jobs now require some kind of computer interface.
With 80% of benefits applications to be completed online by 2017 as part of the Government’s Welfare Reform, the need for housing organisations to support their residents and tenants with using the internet has never been greater.
Digital Unite’s online courses are designed for organisations and individuals who help introduce beginners to the benefits of the internet and are flexible, self-study e-learning programmes. Already effective in helping Digital Champions and Mentors, a recent survey of current users showed that 8 out of 10 had gained new ideas and techniques from their Digital Unite course and 9 out of 10 would recommend them.
