New Erosh Members’ Policy Briefing – What does the 2011 Census tell us about the ‘oldest old’ in England and Wales?

On 6/12/13 the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published a briefing “What does the 2011 Census tell us about the “oldest old” living in England & Wales?”. This report examines characteristics of people aged 85 years or older on Census Day 2011 including those living in communal establishments such as retirement homes and nursing homes.

It’s interesting and worrying reading especially considering the impact of the current economic climate and public funding cuts on preventative services aimed at supporting people in their older age.

Visit the briefings page to discover the key findings particularly relevant to those working in housing and related support services for older people.
