Sadly, research undertaken by the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales reveals that levels of optimism amongst older people have plummeted during the past two years.
4 in 10 of older people surveyed felt optimistic about the future which represents a decrease from March 2021 when 8 out of 10 felt optimistic, despite the beginning of the pandemic.
Helena Herklots, the Commissioner attributes this partly to the impact on older people of the cost-of-living crisis and pressures on public services, as well as the longer term impact of the pandemic particularly in relation to loneliness and isolation, and is worried about the impact on older people’s health, well-being and quality of life.
