We are delighted to announce that Riverside has successfully achieved our Independent Living Standards Accreditation.
Riverside is a group of complementary businesses driven by a clear social purpose, with a charitable housing association at its core. Established over 90 years ago, they have grown to become a major provider of affordable housing, care and support services in England and Scotland, with more than 75,000 homes in management.
Riverside’s Retirement Living is all about maintaining independent living and they have 4,500 properties across the country – from Liverpool to Hull and Carlisle to Southend-on-Sea. Riverside are continuing to improve their Retirement Living properties and are spending £27m to ensure they are the kind of places their customers want to live, now and into the future.
The erosh Independent Living Services assessor commented that “The Riverside Retirement Living schemes provide a good option for older residents, with well-maintained accommodation that has seen significant improvements to many schemes and other works planned.”
In particular the following areas of good practice were noted:
- Peer and scheme audits provide a consistent and scheduled approach to monitoring a wide
range of compliance and other performance information, which is valid information to
reassure senior staff, residents and the Regulator of Social Housing.
- The approach to resident involvement with the Co-production approach was evident across
the schemes and provided a clear message consistently that residents have a voice, and notice
will be taken of their views. Although the contributions were mainly local scheme issues, it
was a valuable approach, with detailed records being kept of the contributions being made.
- The improvement programme for the larger schemes (RLIP) is producing much improved and
attractive schemes that will increase the attraction for new residents and a more comfortable
and welcoming scheme for existing residents. The programmes are well planned,
comprehensive and provide opportunities for resident engagement in choices.
